I decided to switch to coding because there are very few finance-related jobs in the U.S. Even if I managed to get one, the role would likely have little to do with finance and would mostly involve miscellaneous tasks. So, I chose to change my career path.
I started the class in September. At first, my foundation was weak, so I had to review the lessons several times after class. The fact that the teacher taught in English made it even more challenging for me to understand the material.
In the beginning, we focused on the basics of programming and underlying logic, which were also important for interview preparation. I didn’t realize how frequently algorithms would appear in interviews. Luckily, the teacher helped me by summarizing templates, making it easier for me to learn and solve problems.
The first month was spent on basics. By the second month, the difficulty level started to increase. As a recent graduate, I hadn’t worked on any projects yet. However, I was introduced to enterprise-level projects. From start to finish, I participated in the entire process, and I was surprised to see that I was able to complete the project myself.
Starting in November, I focused on interview preparation. Since I graduated later and the holidays were approaching, many companies weren’t hiring. Still, I couldn’t afford to relax. I had only one year left, so I couldn’t waste time. I spent every day doing high-intensity mock interviews and working on projects. There were many moments when I wanted to give up, but I pushed through because I needed to stay in the U.S.
After finishing the project and mock interviews, the teacher helped me revise my resume and offered me opportunities for direct referrals. This led to me successfully getting an offer from Accenture.
