JHU Applied Mathematics student Tracy landed an IBM Data Scientist offer after just one interview, following targeted resume optimization and interview preparation with Drill.

Tracy is an Applied Mathematics student at Johns Hopkins University with internship experience across Data Science, Software Engineering, and AI.

Although she had a strong and diverse background, she initially struggled with how to position her experience, identify the right career focus, and present herself more effectively for Data Scientist roles.

After joining Drill, her mentor first helped her reorganize her resume and highlight the experiences most relevant to Data Science positions. When Tracy unexpectedly received an IBM interview invitation, the original preparation plan was immediately adjusted to focus on behavioral questions, project deep dives, recruiter expectations, and how to communicate her experience clearly and strategically.

The interview process turned out to be much faster than she expected. After just one recruiter interview, Tracy received an offer for a Data Scientist position at IBM.

Because everything happened so quickly, her first reaction was: “Is this a scam?”
