For international students looking for jobs in North America, knowing the interview process, the kinds of questions asked, and how to prepare can help, especially if you want to work at a cutting-edge AI company like this. Compared to typical tech firms, Anthropic’s interviews put more weight on how you think, your engineering skills, and your understanding of AI ethics and the future of AI tech.

The process usually starts with an online application or an internal referral. After your resume passes the initial screening, the first round is often a phone or video call with an engineer. You can expect some technical questions, but also open-ended ones like “How would you improve current LLM training methods?” or “How do you balance AI capability with safety?” There aren’t clear-cut right answers here — interviewers want to see how you think things through and how clearly you explain your ideas.

You might get questions like “What do you think about transparency in AI?” or “How do you balance business goals with AI safety concerns?” If you know some of their research, like Constitutional AI or explainability, that’s definitely a plus.

All in all, Anthropic’s interviews move fast and focus a lot on thinking critically and logically, plus having the right mindset. Technical skills are important, but just one piece of the puzzle. If you show solid fundamentals, relevant projects, a genuine passion for AI, and can communicate well and calmly, you have a good shot.
