When I was studying computer science in North America, I quickly realized how tough the job search could be, especially as an international student. It felt like finding the right information and getting ready for interviews was a real challenge. To make things easier, I decided to join a training program made for CS international students. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I made during my job search.
The program covered all the essentials: coding practice, resume revision, and mock interviews. Before joining, I would get stuck on problems for hours without making much progress. But in the program, the instructors broke things down step by step, which made it easier to understand. They also focused a lot on how to explain your thought process clearly during interviews. Over time, I stopped stressing about perfecting every problem and started focusing more on understanding the core concepts behind the questions.
One part of the program that helped was the system design. It was something I hadn’t learned much about in school, and at first, I had no idea where to begin. But the instructors walked us through it, starting from how to analyze requirements to designing modules and optimizing performance. We also practiced real interview questions, which showed me that it’s more important to explain things clearly than to have the perfect solution.
The behavioral interview practice was another big part of the program. Many students are good with tech but struggle with interviews because they don’t know how to express themselves clearly in English. We practiced answering questions like how to handle team conflicts or deal with project delays. This helped me gain confidence and made it easier to explain my thought process in interviews.
All in all, the program gave me a focused space to learn and helped me meet a lot of motivated people. We all supported each other, which made the process a lot less overwhelming.
